Prudential Fund Management Introduces Indonesia Equity Fund: Bringing the best of 557 international funds in Japan to Malaysians

02 May 2011

Prudential Fund Management Berhad (PFMB), the asset management business of Prudential in Malaysia, is introducing a new fund, the PRU Indonesia Equity Fund: an equity feeder fund that allows Malaysians to participate in Indonesian equities.

Following the successful footsteps of its counterparts in Japan and Taiwan, the PRU Indonesia Equity Fund feeds into the International Opportunities (IOF) - Indonesia Equity, which is managed by Prudential Asset Management Singapore.

"Indonesia has been on the radar screen of global investors lately and it is no surprise why. Its gross domestic product (GDP) has nearly doubled over the last five years, it is expected to have strong earnings growth and the Government is working hard to secure strong foreign direct investment.

It is for some of these reasons that we have chosen to launch our latest fund, the PRU Indonesia Equity Fund, allowing Malaysians to be part of this exciting period of time for our neighbour," said Lynn Cheah, Chief Executive Officer of PFMB.

She also added that Indonesia is well placed to take advantage of a strong demand in commodity as it is the world's largest exporter of coal, the 3rd largest natural gas exporter and the world's biggest palm oil producer.

The PRU Indonesia Equity Fund is not the first fund from Prudential to feed into the IOF. It follows the successful footsteps of PCA Asset Taiwan's Indonesia Fund which was awarded the Top ASEAN Equity Fund 2010 by a Taiwanese financial portal and PCA Asset Japan's Indonesia Equity Fund which won the "Fund of the Year 2010" Award from Morningstar.

Lynn added that the successful track record of its counterparts in other markets bode well for Malaysians looking for long-term total returns and those looking for exposure in the fast growing Indonesian equities.

Investors can invest at the Initial Offer Period price of RM0.50 per unit. The minimum investment amount is RM1,000 and minimum additional investment is RM100.
