Eastspring Investments Berhad’s Corporate Social Responsibility Financial Literacy Programme

In line with our corporate social responsibility (CSR) effort, we have embarked on a programme to educate our youths on financial literacy. We are proud to announce that the programme is aimed specifically at teaching the Malaysian youth about the proper way to manage their money.

Despite being a relatively straight-forward concept, many would be surprised by the statistics that reveals the appalling reality faced by Malaysians nowadays. According to a recent survey conducted with 25,500 participants in 28 countries[1], Malaysia is ranked at the 10th position behind countries such as Brazil and Thailand in terms of our financial literacy. More than 70% of the survey respondents in Malaysia have not saved enough to endure a personal economic emergency spanning more than 3 months! Even more alarmingly, Malaysia is ranked at the bottom half of the survey when it comes to our time spent on educating our children about money management, scoring behind less-developed countries such as Mexico, Serbia and Egypt! It is such stark reality that makes the Eastspring Investments Berhad Financial Literacy program a much needed initiative to teach our children the proper way of managing money.

Over the course of 2months, 9 schools with over 1800 students aged between 14 – 16 years old benefited from our CSR program. Through a series of fun-filled interactive activities, students learned about the importance of saving, budgeting, investing as well as the significant impact of inflation eroding the purchasing power of their hard-earned savings.

As children are our future, Eastspring Investments is committed to educate our future generation in becoming financially savvy Malaysians.
